A. Step by Step how to apply

  1. Online registration  Register online in this website:  https://online.umm.ac.id/en ,
  2. Application assessment  Wait for application assessment and confirmation.
  3. Announcement  Wait for announcement from university.
  4. Study permit process  International Office will process study permit for applicant.
  5. Telex visa process  International Office will process your telex visa.
  6. Vitas process  applicant have to book visa appointment in Indonesian Embassy/Consulate in their country.
  7. Arrival  Applicants arrive in Indonesia.

B. Required Documents

  • Formal Photo (only digital format 300*375px)
  • Passport (Scan of original)
  • Senior High school certificate for bachelor program/ bachelor certificate for master program (Scan of original documents and must be in English)
  • Transcript (Scan of original documents and must be in English)
  • For Psychology profession applicant, he/she must from psychology faculty

International Admission

Admission at Universitas Muhammadiyah Malang is explained by the Rector Regulation No: 04/UMM/IX/202 (for regular path for both international and indonesian students)

Admission for international students in Bachelor Programme of Psychology is regulated by the Dean Regulation No E.5.a/1299/F.Psi_UMM/IX/2022

There are two schemes for International Psychology Programmes, namely

(1) Joint Degree Programme with Asia University, Taiwan;

(2) International Credit Transfer Programme,

Which allows students to take one semester Credi Transfer Programme with university partners.

International students have to enroll Indonesian Language Programme for Foreigners called Bahasa Indonesia Bagi Penutur Asing (BIPA). Materials for BIPA Programme can be access here.

One-Year Indonesian Language Class for International Students

Universitas Muhammadiyah Malang

One-Year progrramme of BIPA – Indonesian Language for Foreign Speakers – at Universitas Muhammadiyah Malang aims to provide the international students with the introduction to Indonesian language. This two-semester programme facilitates the International students with Indonesian language for daily and first year academic survival. 

By the end of the programme, it is expected that the international students are able to communicate using Indonesian language in level A2 (Basic User). The following table describes levels A1 and A2, offered within two semesters.

Semester Level Description
I
A1
Can understand and use familiar everyday expressions and very basic phrases aimed at the satisfaction of needs of a concrete type. Can introduce him/herself and others and can ask and answer questions about personal details such as where he/she lives, people he/she knows and things he/she has. Can interact in a simple way provided the other person talks slowly and clearly and is prepared to help.
II
A2
Can understand sentences and frequently used expressions related to areas of most immediate relevance (e.g. very basic personal and family information, shopping, local geography, employment). Can communicate in simple and routine tasks requiring a simple and direct exchange of information on familiar and routine matters. Can describe in simple terms aspects of his/her background, immediate environment and matters in areas of immediate need.

To minimize the culture shock, international students are not only learning the language but also engaging in some cultural activities suggested by the curriculum. Every semester, the international students have to enroll in six courses, namely; (1) Listening, (2) Speaking, (3) Reading, (4) Writing, (5) Vocabulary, and (6) Indonesian Culture. The following tables describe the contents of each course.

Semester 1

Courses Description
Listening
Students can recognize familiar words and very basic phrases concerning self, family, and immediate concrete surroundings when people speak slowly and clearly
Speaking
Students can interact in a simple way provided the other person is prepared to repeat or rephrase things at a slower rate of speech and help students formulate what they trying to say. Students can adk and answer simple questions in areas of immediate need or on very familiar topics.
Reading
Students can understand familiar names, words and very simple sentences, for example on notices and posters or in catalogs
Writing
Students can write short, simple postcard. Students can fill in forms with personal details. Students can write short simple notes and message relating to matters in areas of immediate need.
Vocabulary
Students has a basic vocabulary repertoire of isolated words and phrases related to particular concrete situations.
Indonesian Culture
Students has a relevant sociocultural knowledge, e.g. knowledge of social norms and variations, social conventions and rules, language forms appropriate to the context, references connected with national or cultural identity, and distinctive differences between student’s culture and the target culture and intercultural awareness

Semester 2

Courses Description
Listening
Students can understand phrases and the highest frequency vocabulary related to areas of most immediate personal relevance (e.g. very basic personal and family information, shopping, local area, employment); can catch the main point in short, clear, simple message and annountcements.
Speaking
Students can communicate in simple and routine tasks rewuiring a simple and direct exchange of information on familiar topic and activities. Students can use series of phrases and sentences to describe in simple terms family, living conditions, educational background, and present or most recent job.
Reading
Students can read very short, simple texts. Students can find specific, predictable information in simple everyday material such as advertisemens, prospectuses, menus, and timetables and can understand short simple personal letters.
Writing
Students can write simple connected text on topics with familiar or personal interest. Students can write personal letters describing experiences and impressions
Vocabulary
Students has sufficient vocabulary to conduct routine, everyday transactions involving familiar situations and topics. Students has sufficient vocabulary for expression of basic communicative needs and coping with simple survival needs
Indonesian Culture
Students has a relevant sociocultural knowledge, e.g. knowledge of social norms and variations, social conventions and rules, language forms appropriate to the context, references connected with national or cultural identity, and distinctive differences between student’s culture and the target culture and intercultural awareness

The international students’ Indonesian language proficiency will be stated in the Certificate awarded for their participation and achievement in one-year programme of BIPA.
